The Bridal Shower Basics
The beautiful soon to be bride is usually "showered' with gifts in
anticipation of starting her new life as a married woman.
A bridal shower is most often held by the bride’s friends and family members to
celebrate her coming wedding. She is “showered” with gifts in anticipation of
her starting her own household. Historically, the bridal shower began when a
woman’s family refused to provide her with a dowry because she wanted to marry a
man they deemed unsuitable. Friends got together and brought gifts to the young
couple to help them set up house.
What Happens at a Bridal Shower?
A bridal shower may be simple or elaborate, and activities vary according to the
location. Either way, most of the time will probably be spent laughing, eating,
telling stories, and opening presents. Good music and bridal shower games help
keep the party going for a long time!
The food might consist of simple chips and dips and other snacks, or it could
encompass an elaborate spread. There might be few or many decorations with a
theme related to the coming wedding and the couple.
As the bride open presents, some soft music may be playing unobtrusively in the
background.
Typically, someone writes down a description of each gift and the name of the
giver to make thank-you note writing easier for the bride later on.
